The Mechanic oversees the machinery performance and supports the manufacturing processes, focusing on the reliability of the equipment used, ensuring its suitability to manufacture products within the quality standards and exceeding the expectations of our customers.



Summary/Objective:
The Mechanic oversees the machinery performance and supports the manufacturing processes, focusing on the reliability of the equipment used, ensuring its suitability to manufacture products within the quality standards and exceeding the expectations of our customers.
 
The Mechanic performs the PM routine, troubleshoots and repairs industrial equipment when needed. Typical tasks include building and assembling of equipment for new applications and working in coordination with other areas to improve and develop manufacturing processes. 
 
Essential Functions:
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following all the Safety and GMP procedures  and the use of all control points, equipment, and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the process conditions of the equipment and make the required decisions to ensure the continuity of the process and that products comply with all the standards and maintain a high performance in the operation.
  • Test and observe equipment and machinery using appropriate tools and testing devices to diagnose malfunctions and make repairs as needed.
  • Examine moving parts on a daily, weekly and monthly basis for signs of excessive wear, defects and damage.
  • Inspect, maintain and repair industrial equipment and machinery to ensure these are always in proper working order.
  • Record all maintenance and repair services performed and keep track of all materials and parts used during the repair process.
  • Ensure that all logbooks, maintenance records and other official documents are completed and accurate in a timely manner.
  • Care for machinery and equipment by cleaning them after use, adjusting parts and lubricating moving components as needed to ensure proper, efficient function.
  • Give proper and timely feedback to operators for the right operation and care of equipment as well as supporting training process for operations personnel.
  • Coordinate activities and lead the solution of issues with other areas such as Quality, Safety, etc.
  • Order or request orders to be placed to replenish materials and parts when inventory grows low or is depleted.
  • Study manufacturer manuals and blueprints and carefully follow directions when operating or setting up newly-acquired machinery.
  • Assemble equipment and components for new lines and applications, as required by the business.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary. 
Required Experience & Skills:
At least 2-4 years’ experience working in packaging processes – preferable in food industry or similar. Good communication skills, with an ability to partner with the leadership team. Flexible and able to multitask. Preferably able to travel when training and support to other business units should be required. This position regularly requires long hours and weekend work. Excellent English written and oral communication skills. 
  • Preferable Bilingual English / Spanish.
  • Basic knowledge of GMP and Safety Policies.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance of packaging equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in electronics and PLC applications for manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
Supervisory Responsibility:
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for direct management of Mechanics and Electricians associates.

Work Environment:
Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the plant. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.  The employee might regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.  No specific vision requirements.

Travel:
Up to 25% of the time.
